Autonomy & Flexibility: Desirable Choices for GenZ at Workplace

Are you a Gen Z looking for autonomy, flexibility, and work-life balance in your career? Well, you are not alone.

According to a survey by the Intelligence Group, 84% of Gen Z wants flexibility in their job and a majority (70%) are willing to take a pay cut for more flexible working hours. Another survey by Indeed Hiring Lab found that job seekers under the age of 25 prioritize work-life balance and flexibility over pay.

How can Gen Z find autonomy and flexibility in the IT workplace?

Gen Z can prioritize autonomy and flexibility in the IT workplace by seeking out companies and roles that value and support those principles, and by clearly communicating their needs and preferences to their managers and colleagues. They can also look for the “Great Place to Work”, and “LinkedIn Top Companies 2022: Technology & Information” lists and choose to work there.

Can "Great Place to Work” ensure an autonomous work environment?

"Great Place to Work" is a certification program that recognizes organizations with a positive and high-trust workplace culture. To be certified, organizations must meet certain criteria based on employee surveys and evaluations of their policies and practices.

For Gen Z individuals, working at a "Great Place to Work" certified organization may mean that they will have the opportunity to work in a positive and supportive work environment. They will be a part of an organization that prioritizes the well-being and engagement of its employees. This can lead to increased job satisfaction, motivation, and a better work-life balance.

Additionally, organizations that have earned the "Great Place to Work" certification often have flexible policies, a diverse and inclusive culture, and opportunities for career growth.

However, it's important to note that a "Great Place to Work" certification does not guarantee a perfect workplace. It's just a recognition of an organization's efforts to create a positive culture, but it's always better to do your research before starting a job or joining an organization.

For example, Publicis Sapient is ‘Great Place to Work’ certified in US and Germany from 2022 to December, 2023. Work flexibility was present in this organization long ago, as you can read Publicis Sapient companyreview here to see if it meets your Gen Z standards.
